The word “But” erase everything that was said before

Some say that the word “but can be understood a bit like the eraser on the back of a pencil

But – a ” I didn’t really mean it word”

Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt

Since I’ve read that “but” can be seen as an eraser I’ve tried to listen to how we use the word: take a few examples:
“I’m so sorry, but…”
“No you don’t look fat in that, but…”
“It tastes great, but…”

Great I can draw it up too:

The word “but” often works like an eraser, removing all the words that came before

Drawn journalism is a project by me, Frits Ahlefeldt – about drawing up journalism, using drawings, sketches and watercolors, more than words
