Citizen science as community

Getting together to share and explore reality

Citizen science heart drawing

Drawing at the conference had been a mind-blowing experience, I had seen so many people sharing and connecting over science

I took down all the sketches I’d done on the two days, said goodbye, grabbed my backpack and went down to a park to sit under a tree for a moment.

After two long lock-down years of the pandemic, where everything had to be in digital bits, it even felt more outlandish to be among smiling people in reality.

I opened my bag and looked through my drawings from the days.

Maybe this heart captures what the many, and so different people were there to do together.

Looking up at the tree I wondered, maybe my main realization after the intense days was that Citizen science is not only about how we can create better science by sharing and connecting, but also about how we can create better relationships and communities through doing science together…
