More and more cities are planning zones that can be flooded and where the water can be directed so it causes minimal challenges. The places can be designed to provide value when not flooded as biodiversity, sports and recreational areas. But designers are now also thinking of experiences during floods

Many climate measures will only come into use in extreme storm and weather situations, and to make them better investments and more useful, planners and architects have started to put experiences and other functions into them
Floods can be very traumatizing and until now they have mostly been seen exclusively as something to be feared and avoided. But new designs of basins, canals and buffer zones have a more positive approach to them and try to stage them as something that also offers new opportunities.
